Firefighter Memorial
Service; June 22, 2007
We sent a command vehicle and
two (2) staff to the procession and Memorial Service.
Other Brunswick County agencies that we saw at the Memorial
Service included Ocean Island Beach Fire Department, Shallotte
Fire Department, and Oak Island Fire Department.
The service was incredibly
moving and heart wrenching. Words cannot accurately
describe the sadness, yet sense of honor and tribute bestowed
to the nine that lost their lives doing their job. Those
nine firemen went to work and never made it back home to
their wives, children, and other family members. This
should prompt all of us to remember that any of us can fall into
a bad situation, regardless of the good decision making
and and safety measures we have in place.
