Struck by Lightning Strike. August 2005
CALL:
911 activated reference 2 children struck by lightning on the
beach.
The 11 y/o
boy was in cardiac arrest for 11 minutes. CPR was started
by his MOM and a bystander a few minutes after the
incident occurred. Medical personnel arrived, resuscitated
him while on the beach and then stabilized him in the ambulance
while waiting for the helicopter to arrive. The helicopter
arrived 35 minutes after the call was dispatched.
The 9 y/o
boy had been taken to a nearby house prior to EMS arrival.
He was cared for by medical personnel and taken to a local
hospital by ambulance and ferry.
The storm
in question came up the coast very quickly and with little
warning (as do many storms in coastal regions).
