There are numerous
emergency sirens located throughout Brunswick County, two of
which are on Bald Head Island. When these sirens are fully
activated activated you should tune into the local news and/or
radio stations for additional information.
These sirens can only be utilized for nuclear
emergency situations.
There are different types of siren
blasts:
Silent Siren Test
Silent siren tests are conducted on a
daily basis. The test does not involve the counties.
he sirens are tested at an sub0audible
frequency, which can only be hear by some dogs and many children
under the age of three (3).
Growl Test (short burst of siren)
Growl tests are conducted quarterly
(second week in January, April, and October). Variation in
test days may occur due to holidays or state/county request.
Sirens are normally activated by the
counties during this test.
Full Volume Test
Full volume tests are conducted once per
calendar year.
Sirens are normally activated by the
counties during this test.
Observers are stationed at each siren
site.
The 2008 full volume test is scheduled for
November 12 at 10:00 a.m.
