Chris
McCall was hired as the Assistant Village Manager/Development
Services Director on September 15, 2004. Chris previously
worked for Brunswick County as the County Land Planner and had
served in that capacity since March of 2001. Chris received his
Bachelor of Science in Urban & Regional Planning in December of
2000 from East Carolina University located in Greenville North
Carolina.
In
July 2010, the Village Council approved for the creation of a
Shoreline Protection Department and placed the duties and
responsibilities of the Shoreline Protection Manager under the
purview of Chris. This changed resulted in a number of the
Development Services functions being re-directed to the Building
Inspector so that Chris could focus solely and manage the
efforts of the Shoreline Protection Committee as the Council’s
staff liaison in all matters relating to the protection of the
Village’s shoreline. Chris oversees and coordinates
preservation and enhancement of the shoreline through execution
of prime and enabling objectives within the Comprehensive
Shoreline Protection Strategy document. Additionally, Chris
coordinates efforts to execute modifications of the Wilmington
Harbor Navigation Channel, Sand Management Plan, and specific
projects including Harbor groins and jetty, terminal groins and
dredging projects both private and US Army Corps of Engineers
Operation & Maintenance related projects. Of importance is
overseeing and managing lobbying efforts with Federal and State
lobbyist on behalf of the Village for necessary funding for the
protection and enhancement of the shoreline.
Prior to attending East Carolina, Chris served as
a Communications Specialist in the U.S. Army (1991-1994) and was
fortunate to be stationed in a Support Group for the 25 th
Infantry Division based in Schofield Barracks Hawaii.
Chris is currently enrolled at the University of
North Carolina at Wilmington working towards a Masters of Public
Administration concentrating in Coastal Management. Chris
enrolled in the Fall of 2008 and hopes to complete the program
in Spring 2012.
In addition to playing golf, Chris enjoys
spending time on the beach with family and friends.
