Deb Straub
joined the Village staff as Finance Director in January 2007.
Yes, she is a “Yankee”; born and raised in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. Deb received her Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Administration in 1981 from Robert Morris College in
Pittsburgh.
She began her
career in accounting at the Rehabilitation Institute of
Pittsburgh. During her 20 year tenure, she rose in the ranks
from accounting clerk to Controller of this physical
rehabilitation facility. She then took some time off to raise
two children, while working part-time as an accountant for the
Boro of Oakmont (the local town in which she lived). In 1999
re-started her career as Vice President of Finance at the Center
of Organ Recovery and Education (CORE), which is one of the
premier human organ procurement organizations in the country.
Deb has two
children, Stephen, who recently graduated from Indiana
University of Pennsylvania and Katelyn, who is a junior at UNC-Charlotte.
Husband, Mike, worked for BWXT Technologies and took an early
retirement in 2005. They decided to move to Sunset Beach, where
they vacationed for more than 15 years.
Deb is also a certified Jazzercise (dance aerobics) instructor
and taught classes at Sunset Beach and Little River, SC before
resuming her accounting career. She also enjoys golf and the
beach.
