Emergency Preparedness

Emergency events, either natural or man-made, are a concern everywhere. The Village monitors for such events and will respond accordingly.

The Village’s Public Safety Department has staff ready to respond to police, emergency medical, water rescue, and fire emergencies 24 hours a day seven days a week.  If something out of the ordinary happens, such as an ice storm, hurricane, or man-made disaster, the Village will respond locally to protect the lives, health, and safety of everyone on the island and to protect island properties from damage.

The number one priority of the Village is to protect the public’s life, health, and safety. The Village does this by being prepared and getting timely and accurate messages out to the public to let everyone know what is happening, how the Village (and the County and/or State) is responding, and what the public should do.  Though, it is in everyone’s best interest to prepare ourselves as individuals for any emergency that may arise.

CODE RED Notification System

The Village of Bald Head Island utilizes an emergency notification system known as CODE RED.  Village of Bald Head Island citizens can GO HERE to register to receive emergency messaging and updates about specific events (i.e. hurricanes and/or tropical storms).  This system will be used in addition to the Village’s Voice, Village website, social media, and media releases to send important messages via phone, email, and text. Registrants can choose which methods of contact they prefer.

BHI Property Owner Re-Entry Registration

The re-entry procedure will be determined on several factors including guidance from the Emergency Operations Team, Mayor, and the Public Safety Director. Property owners with structures on their property will be asked to register with the Village if there is a likelihood that a mandatory evacuation is issued and a re-entry procedure is implemented. This is an electronic registration and a link to the registration form will be made available to property owners on THIS WEBPAGE and will be sent to Village’s Voice subscribers and via CodeRed. There is no need to pre-register with the Village.
