Welcome to the Bald Head Island
Integrated Shoreline Project
Info Center.
This site is your instant access to all things related to the
Village’s Beach Restoration Program. For several years, the
Village has fought to restore and maintain the beautiful beaches
that make Bald Head Island so special.
This year, the Village is engaged in the next phase of its beach
restoration and maintenance program. Right now Olson Engineering
is busy examining the current condition of our beaches and
designing a project to place about 1.5 to 2 million cubic yards
of sand on South and West Beaches. This program is intended to both
supplement sand losses during an impending 4-year hiatus between
federal disposal projects and to provide a “base project” which
will benefit South and West Beaches. At the time of
nourishment of South Beach, it is presently proposed that West
Beach would receive a small-scale fill placement project
estimated at less than 150,000 cubic yards.
If all goes well in the design and permitting process, the
project is expected to begin in the next 12 to 18 months.
In the meantime, the Village has retained the services of Peter
A. Ravella Consulting, LLC (PARC) to help develop the long-term
financing plan to support our Beach Restoration Program. Peter
Ravella, President of PARC, has more than 15 years experience in
coastal project planning, permitting and financing.
This summer, PARC will be hosting a series of charettes and
public workshops to explore the potential options for financing
the Village’s Beach restoration Program. The financial planning
process is intended to provide all of BHI’s residents and
stakeholders with a direct and meaningful opportunity to learn
about the project, its costs, financing options, and to help
craft a financing plan that is fair and equitable for the
community.
Please check out the calendar listing and plan to attend the
Opening Beach Project Financing Charettes coming up July 11 and
12 at the BHI Association Center. PARC will be making a
presentation on beach project financing options, discussing
various approaches, and taking your comments and input.
Over the course of the project development and financial
planning process, we will be adding to the website regularly,
including:
Project Documents – here we’ll post copies of project documents,
plans, reports, PowerPoint presentations, and other materials to
keep you up to date.
Project Calendar -- the calendar will including public

public participation.
Discussion Board – will provide a place for you to post
questions or comments about the project, talk with the Village’s
consultants, including our financial planner, Peter Ravella.
and . . .
Frequently Asked Questions where we’ll try to compile in a
single place answers to the most common questions we encounter.
